So in our apartment we have this random door that leads to nowhere (as seen in the movie). We accidently locked ourselves out of the apartment and we didn't want to go tell Brother Hall (the person who we are staying with). So we had this brilliant idea to climb on top of the car and to reach the random door so we could get in. It was quite an adventure. But other than climbing through random doors we do actually do missionary work around these parts. And a lot of it. We had an AMAZING week.
So starting with the bad news so that we can get that out of the way. Marie and her kids went on vacation this week so we haven't been able to meet with them this whole week. This will probably mean we have to push their baptismal date back a week. Bummer. But we met with Tommy again and we set a date for him to be baptized on July 16th. As I mentioned in my last letter, his parents are Jehovah Witness and they didn't even know that Tommy was coming to church and meeting with us. We told him in our last lesson that he will have to talk to his parents about this if he wants to get baptized (which he truly does). So yesterday he talked to his parents and....well....it didn't go very well. His mom said that while he is living in her house he cannot be baptized into the Mormon church. She did however say he can still come to church. I don't really know what to do with this situation. He is 16 right now and he may have to wait to be baptized until he is 18. We will be praying hard for his mother to soften her heart. Hopefully we will be able to meet with her in the next couple weeks.
We started teaching Jay and it went really well. He also came to church. He said that he would be baptized as he comes to know the Book of Mormon is true. We also taught this guy named Greg. He is this awesome black guy with long dread locks. He loves meeting with us and said he would be baptized but the only problem is, he won't come to church. We took him on a tour of the chapel the other day and he seemed a little bit more comfortable but he said he won't come to church for about a month still.
There is this really sweet lady in Toledo (pronounced ta-leed-oh) named Nikki. She is in her 60's and has some severe health problems. But she is so very receptive to our words and is truly seeking out the truth. We taught her about the plan of salvation and she loved the part about the spirit world and we even taught her about baptisms for the dead and she just sucks it all in and wants to know more. She will probably be coming to church this week and we will set a date to be baptized for her.
Well this Sunday Elder Thomas and I split up because we cover both the ward in Newport and the Branch in Waldport. So he went to Waldport with one of the members and I stayed in Newport. At first I was a little apprehensive about sending Elder Thomas out on his own because he is so new, but those feelings quickly disolved when he came back. He said that he got 9 refferals from the people there. There were about 6 non-members that just showed up to church with their friends and they said we could teach them. So when we go down to Waldport on Wednesday we are going to be very busy. So all in all we had eleven investigators come to church this Sunday. That is a lot. It is AWESOME! I'm so excited to teach all these people and help them progress further. I love this work so freaking much!!!!!!!!!! And despite all the random doors that we climb through we are still working ourselves so hard, but the Lord gives us strength. And we are enabled to do things that we never thought were possible before.
